Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global, online program focused on bringing new contributors into open-source software development. GSoC Contributors work with an open-source organization on a 12+ week programming project under the guidance of mentors. The program aims to foster the next generation of open-source developers and provides a structured environment for learning and contribution.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to new and beginner contributors to open source. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Specific academic enrollment requirements have been relaxed in recent years, making it accessible to a broader audience of aspiring developers. Mentoring organizations are announced on February 19, 2026.

TANGIBLE BENEFIT: Stipend for successful completion of the project (amount varies by region and project complexity). Opportunity to gain real-world open-source development experience and mentorship from experienced developers.

DEADLINE: Applications for GSoC contributors open March 16–31, 2026.
