ChatGPT is a large language model (LLM) trained by OpenAI that generates human-like text in response to user input and remembers what the user said earlier in the conversation so it can make follow-up corrections.

ChatGPT is fine-tuned from a model in the GPT-3.5 series, which finished training in early 2022.

Key capabilities:
- Remembers what the user said earlier in the conversation
- Allows a user to provide follow-up corrections
- Trained to decline inappropriate requests

Key Limitations:
- May occasionally generate incorrect information
- May occasionally produce harmful instructions or biased content
- Limited knowledge of the world and events after 2021
