The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) has announced updates to the funding guidelines for federal support in the area of cloud and edge infrastructure and services within the IPCEI-CIS framework. These changes, effective from January 18, 2024, modify the original guidelines published on May 31, 2023.

Key updates include:
- Funding Basis: Aligning with Article 25 of the General Block Exemption Regulation (AGVO) as updated on June 23, 2023. If AGVO is not extended by June 30, 2027, the guidelines will adapt to the new exemption conditions.
- New Focus Areas: Introduction of robotics and automation as key application fields for the open Cloud-Edge continuum, emphasizing AI-based robotics in logistics, industrial production, and lab automation.
- Project Duration: Projects should not exceed December 31, 2026.
- Funding Cap: Limitation of funding to €25 million per company and project for predominantly experimental development.
- Intellectual Property: Commitment to grant non-exclusive licenses at market prices for IP-protected research findings.
- Funding Type: Non-repayable grants.

Submission Deadlines: Project outlines must be submitted by July 21, 2023, with an additional deadline of March 24, 2024.
